I think one of the hardest things to do in Life is to change eating habits, after all they are habits! Good or bad for us we reach for them, crave them, and can even taste it before they get to our mouths. We might associate with early memories in our lives where we had those foods, happy times, times of Holidays, times of Celebration, Gatherings, Family Fun and often there is even Ceremony around it, where everyone is happy, excited, in harmony together. So it is often subconscious! The Subconscious is one of the hardest things to change, even if we are aware of it on a Conscious Level.
We end up going to a Doctor to fix long overdue problems that have built up as a result of our Eating Habits. Wanting to continue doing what we are doing, all the while expecting a Healthy Shift, in an unhealthy environment, our Body, our Temple. How do we take responsibility for our many habits that come with that, when often it is so deeply rooted from birth?
Let's face it, it is not going to be easy, after all, it effects our lives so much especially in an older age, when compound things have happened to us and we can't get away with it any longer. Sounds depressing right? It doesn't have to be if we take it as a challenge and set a goal to have fun in the process. There is no way to change everything at once, as there are years and years of habits built up.
So change one thing at a time! It's crazy to assume that we can give up everything at once! Mind you we can look at it as if it is a new Journey, a New Vacation, where we bring one healthy thing into our lives each day! Create a new way a new journey!
Take Avocados-That's a Journey!!!!
I don't know about you, but the first time I tried them, well yuc... the texture was not anything I was use to, the almost no taste of it, was hard to handle! Mind you the second time I tried it, it wasn't as bad, I got over those things and started to taste the deep flavours that at first were not there. Then when I tried Guacamole, that was the clincher. It has to be ripe, then when it is mashed, with a little lemon, (lemon will stop it from discolouring if you want to prepare it before hand) and garlic, then can add tomatoes, red or yellow peppers, or both. Spread on a whole grain wrap, and putting lettuce or spinach on top, which will give it some crunch, is highly nutritious, and after a bit is something that you will want to have as a healthy small meal. Mind you it is a journey just getting to the point of getting past that first taste! Take it as an adventure, a story, and you will find something so good for you, unfold in many different ways, and you will have a story to boot to go with it. An Avocado Journey!!!!! Just figuring out how to get to it, is a journey in itself, so here is a video which may help. Choosing avocados that are at the ripe stage is also important, not too hard, and not too soft. If they are too soft, they are brown, like it is starting to die!!! Seriously, it's gross! If it is too hard, you will not even be able to get the pit out! I keep them in the fridge, I buy some that are ready to go, and some that are hard, if I want it to ripen faster, I take it out at room temperature for a few days, or you might wait weeks for it to ripen in the fridge. See..... an avocado is a journey in itself!
You might want to try it with Salsa and Chips on the Second Try
It is also one of those foods that has Healthy Fats that will help you loose weight!
